Well, the trip is over now! Below you can see the original plans, and then you can read the trip review to see how it all turned out,
or take a look at my pictures from the trip.
![]() This was originally going to be Hamburg, but now that Titanic is closing, it looks like I'll be going to Berlin instead! I was in Berlin for one day back in August 2001 (read more), and there were a few things I had wanted to do then that I didn't have time for, so this will be a chance to cross some of those things off my list! Plus Jörn will be coming too, so it will be a lot of fun! My current plan is that I will be arriving by plane Thursday afternoon, and spending Thursday evening and all of Friday in the city. Tentative plans include:
Although I enjoyed the hostel I stayed at last time I was in the city, I decided this time to try something a little closer to the train station and downtown area, so I have booked at the A&O Hostel Friedrichshain - the price is right, and it looks as good as any other!
![]() This will be my first time in Denmark! I am going mostly to check out the Atlantis Tenth Anniversary Concert, but hope to see a bit of the city while I'm there as well, along with taking a little trip over to Sweden, just to say that I've been. :-) I'll be taking the train from Berlin on Saturday morning, arriving in Copenhagen about 2:00 p.m., and staying until 6:00 p.m. the following evening. Tentative plans are:
I will be meeting up with a few online friends in Copenhagen, namely Janne and Clarissa, and possibly Karin, so my plans may also be altered by what they would like to see! I'll be staying at the Sleep-In Heaven hostel - the website is just too cute. :-)
![]() I have to make a side trip on my way from Copenhagen to Budapest, so that I can check out Neuschwanstein Castle. It's actually one of the things on my "life to-do" list, so there's not much of an excuse for me not to do it on this trip! :-) The route that works best for me from Copenhagen to Füssen has *four* changes of trains (Copenhagen-Hamburg-Hannover-Munich-Kaufbeuren-Füssen), but it gets me to Füssen by 10:00 a.m., which should be perfect to get to the castle before most tourists. As long as I'm not passed out from exhaustion by then. ;-) Anyway, plans for this day are pretty straightforward:
I am thinking about seeing Ludwig II, but I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it enough to make it worth the ticket price, plus then I'd have to spend the night. Yet another thing that I have to decide! Anyway, I'll then take the bus back to Füssen, and get back on the train, for another night of travelling to....
![]() If I leave Füssen at around 7:00 p.m., I'll get to Budapest by 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning! This will be my first time in Hungary, and I'm really hoping that knowledge of the language is not at all necessary, because I really don't know anything. :-) But, hopefully, I will have a friend or two around to help me out, most notably Kata, who has been telling me for more than a year that I must come to Budapest, and is one of the main reasons that I am going! :-) Here are some of the other reasons:
And whatever else I can squeeze in. :-) I'll be staying at the Aquarium Hostel, which looks pretty centrally located!
![]() Vienna is the other city on this list that I've been to before (read more), and I enjoyed it so much, I knew I would be back before too long! The catalyst this time was the new production of Elisabeth that will be opening at the beginning of October. But that's not the only thing I'm planning to do, and I will get to spend time with Roger, Josef, and probably more people too! Here are a few of the things I'm looking forward to:
I'll be staying at the Hostel Ruthensteiner, which is where I stayed two years ago as well. It was a good place! I will go to Mass Sunday morning, and then get back on the train to ...
![]() I have to return to Budapest because no shows are running during the weekdays that I am going to be there! So I will go back just for the evening show, and then return to Vienna to fly home. :-)
From here, I'll take the train back to Munich and fly home!
