Okay, time for an update in here! I was trying to get a start on my email (I did get it from 117 down to 92), but now I'm getting sleepy, so I better write this before I have no energy left. I had to get up at 3:30 this morning to take my mom to the airport, and so I've been a little sluggish all day.
The rest of my mom's time here went really well! We had some nice weather, and some bad weather too. The last time I wrote, we were going to go see the Shakespeare in the Park that night, but it ended up raining, so we went to a pub instead and had supper and played NTN (my mom's first time!). The next day was hot and humid, so we didn't stay long at the ING picnic, but went shopping at Zellers instead, where my mom bought me a little Foreman grill as a housewarming gift - yay! On the weekend, we went on a tall ship cruise along the harbourfront, and then to Urinetown, where we ran into Karen and Gill. That was cool! And the show was fantastic, of course. On Sunday, we went to Ontario Place and to Honest Ed's. We did finally make it to the Shakespeare in the Park last night, and it was quite good (a 1950s version of As You Like It), and we also went to Fahrenheit 9/11, since I wanted my mom to see it. All in all, the past two weeks were a lot of fun, went really fast, and I'm sad she's gone. :-(
However! Our trip to Scotland is fast approaching, which makes me very excited and happy! I've been spending much too much time looking things up online and making trip notes and browsing guidebooks, etc. I'm also getting pretty excited to see The Woman in White - 3 years since the last Andrew Lloyd Webber musical! That's too long. I'm undecided as to whether I should read the book before I see the show though. What do you think?
And, on the subject of trips, I have made a significant purchase towards my next trip after Scotland, which will take place in March of next year. And it is.......a plane ticket to Moscow!!!! That just blows my mind. I got a great deal on it, and it's even a non-stop flight from Toronto! So I'm definitely going to Russia next year! Yay!!!! I still don't really believe it, since I've wanted to go there for so long. I'll spend a week in St. Petersburg, and a week in Moscow. It's going to be great!!
Okay, I'm sure I had much more to say, but I'm going to be heading to bed very shortly, so I'll cut it off for now, and write more this weekend (thank heaven for long weekends!).
As promised, a few pictures from the past weekend:

The "ING" lions at the Zoo

Me and the camels at the Zoo
A quick update, so you all know I'm still alive!
My mom arrived (very late!) on the 13th, and we've been having a really good time. Excursions so far include the Bata Shoe Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, St. Jacobs and Stratford for Guys and Dolls, and the Zoo. Tonight we're going to see the Shakespeare in the Park (they're doing As You Like It), and tomorrow is the annual ING picnic, so I have the afternoon off work, yay! I should have some pictures to share very soon (and then you can see my new haircut too!).
We went to see "The Notebook" earlier this week, and I was a wreck, naturally. However, I was okay last night when we watched "Mystic River", probably because I'd read the book, so I knew what was going to happen.
We're starting to have slightly more summer-ish weather, but still nothing near normal. Today is supposed to be 30+ degrees, but we'll see.
My inbox is out of control, naturally, since I haven't really been online in a week, and I probably won't be for another week, so please have patience!
Just forgot to mention: I got my hair cut! Yay! It's much shorter, and bouncier, and I like it a lot. I also dyed it, it was supposed to be "auburn", but I really barely see a difference. It's a teeny tiny bit more red, and that's it. However, I'm happy with the cut, so it's all good. :-)
My insurance exam is done, hooray! I'm not sure if I'm going to continue with the courses - in order to finish them before my planned "move to London" date, I would need to do two courses this term, and two the next. And there's not really any point in doing them if I'm not going to finish them, because I need to finish them to get the $1500 bonus, which is the reason I'm doing them in the first place! :-) So I have to decide if I can really commit to doing two of these horrifically boring courses instead of just one for the next two terms.
After finishing my exam, I decided I needed a fun weekend, and yesterday was *almost* an excellent day, until I managed to screw it up. *sigh* I rented a car in the morning, and drove down to Buffalo (after waiting TWO HOURS to get across the border - I've never had such a delay...but then, I guess I don't usually go across on the middle of the day on a Saturday either!). Anyway, once I finally made it over, I went to downtown Buffalo for a tour of the Ansley Wilcox House, where Theodore Roosevelt was inaugurated after the assassination of McKinley. It was quite interesting! Not really a popular tourist destination though, I don't think - I was the only one there for a while, so I was getting a private tour, and eventually one other guy joined us. :-) The girl doing the tour had asked where I was from, so at one point when she was talking about the history of the house, she mentioned that it had formerly been part of a barracks that was built to protect Buffalo from the Canadians. ;-)
Anyway, after that, I headed to Target, everyone's favourite Buffalo destination! I bought a skirt, a wall clock, a play centre for Tiger and two DVDs for $50 altogether - not bad!
The Bravo Broadway concert was actually back in Lewiston, which is *right* across the border, so I travelled back there from Buffalo, and stopped for a quick supper before going to the Artpark for the show. Now, here's where I managed to ruin my night, though I didn't know it until later. See, I had emailed Doug to tell him I was coming, but he hadn't responded. Normally, he'll have tickets put aside for me if I'm going to come, but since I hadn't heard from him, I wasn't sure if he had. So I thought I would ask, and if not, I'd just buy a ticket, no big deal, right?
So, I went to the box office and asked. They had nothing under my name, but they had 2 tickets under Doug's name, so the girl gave me those. Fast forward to the end of the concert, and I'm waiting at the stage door. I was kind of just behind the door, so I couldn't see in, but I could hear people inside. So I heard Doug come out, and then I heard him introduce Christiane to his two friends who had come down from Toronto, and all I could think of was "OH MY GOD, I TOOK THEIR TICKETS!" I was absolutely horrified, so I left and went and sat down for a second to try to see how much I was overreacting. I don't know for sure that that's what happened, but it seemed a pretty good possibility, since he never had written me back. I was so upset with myself that I couldn't even bring myself to face him and find out if it was true, so instead I just left a message with one of the volunteers there to tell him that I'd been there and wanted to say hi, but couldn't stay, and then I just left and came back home. :-(
So now I'm just mad at myself for blowing things out of proportion, as I so often do, and not resolving everything then. Now I guess I'll have to email him and explain how I ended up with those tickets, and apologize, and feel like even more of a loser than I already do. And I'm also disappointed because I was really looking forward to talking with him and to Christiane too.
Up until that point, I had really enjoyed the show though! Marvin Hamlisch was conducting, so he played a few songs on the piano, including "What I Did for Love", which was really cool. They sang a few songs that were different from the shows I've been to before, and it was great just to see Christiane again! She did an absolutely fantastic "Glitter and Be Gay"! Then she and Doug also sang "Phantom of the Opera", which was equally wonderful.
On another note, I saw "Spiderman 2" last weekend, and enjoyed it quite a bit! Except, am I the only one who's noticed that Peter Parker hardly says anything? I mean, I know he's supposed to be shy and all, but it seems like he spends most of the movie just looking at people! Regardless of that, it was still very enjoyable, and I just got the first one on DVD too!
Now I really must work on cleaning my apartment, since my mom will be here in two days! This involves a lot of finishing little projects that I have started and abandoned all over the place - mostly organizational things. It should be pretty spotless by the time she arrives!
Stolen from Karen, who stole it from someone else. And, naturally, I've kept some of Karen's answers. :-)

01. I guess until I find a good guy, it'll be my mom. :-)
I just discovered there is a really big park system near my apartment! I went for a walk today, and I decided to walk in a direction I'd never gone before, and I came across one of these "discovery walk" signs they have around the city, and since I wasn't going anywhere in particular, I decided to follow it, and ended up in Sherwood Park. It was really nice! Apparently it's about all that's left of the forest that used to cover all the northern shore of Lake Ontario. It was beautiful weather for a walk, and I went quite far before turning back - some day I'll have to see just how far it goes!
I have good news and bad news about my plans for the summer. The good news first: my mom is coming to Toronto for sure! She's got her flight booked, and will actually be here on the 13th, which is really soon! She'll be staying until the 29th, which makes me really happy. We've bought tickets to go see Guys and Dolls in Stratford, and we've already got lots of things planned to do in the city as well. It will be so nice to have her here, even though I won't be able to take any time off work.
The bad news is that Zorana and I aren't able to do the trip we were planning at the end of the month. :-( At least we hadn't decided for sure where we were going yet, or I would have been even more disappointed. Still, I was really looking forward to it, so it's upsetting that we can't go.
However, it's less than two months until Scotland now! Yay!
I've spent most of the past couple of days alternating between cleaning my apartment and studying for my insurance exam (which is on Thursday). It's amazing how, when I have to study, anything in the world seems more interesting than that. How else can you explain me choosing to wash the windows on my balcony?
The pool in my building is open again! It was closed for a month and a half for renovations, and I've really missed it. But I went yesterday, and hope to get back into a regular routine.
Already, I really ought to get back to the studying. I'm not even going to talk about my email inbox. :-( I wish there was an easier way of replying to email than actually sitting here and typing the response. I want one of those voice recognition things that types for you. It'd be funny to see how it screwed up my words. :-) Alright, seriously, studying now.
