I am just killing time until I go to the airport to pick Krista up. She's flying in from Winnipeg today - her first time in Toronto. And it's raining. In January.
Karen and I went to see Salome at the Canadian Opera last night. It was good, though not quite what I was expecting, costume and set-wise. But then, Atom Egoyan directed this particular production, so I should have known not to expect what I was expecting. :-)
I saw Lord of the Rings the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a little surprised by that, because, though I thought it would be entertaining, I didn't expect to enjoy it half as much as I did. And I want to know what happens next! I could just read the books, I suppose, but then that would take the fun out of seeing the next movies. But I want to see the next movies NOW. :-)
My DVD player is finally truly working - I did have to go buy a modulator-thingy which cost me an extra $50. But I got to watch my Moulin Rouge DVD, so its all worthwhile. :-) I just ordered Hedwig and the Angry Inch too - I have had "Wig in a Box" stuck in my head for the last three days. Every time I open my makeup drawer in the morning, it starts... :-)
Anyway, my desk is a mountain of work, so maybe I should be using this extra time to do some work on that. Though, honestly, I probably won't.

Don't you just love public transportation? I was half an hour late for work this morning. And this follows closely on the heels of the Tuesday evening subway debacle. I need a car.
So Laurie and I had fun on the weekend! We did Mamma Mia! and watched lots of movies, and went to Lee's Palace for some good brit pop (according to Laurie - I wouldn't know the difference). And now another friend of mine is going to be coming down next weekend - I feel so popular all of a sudden. :-) So guess what I'm going to see again...
Karen and I wanted to go see Amélie on Tuesday, but when we got there, it was sold out. And I was going to buy tickets to see The Graduate as well, but it is also sold out, for the entire run. What happened to the time when the only things that sold out were 'NSYNC concerts?? :-)
We ended up seeing Charlotte Gray instead, which left me with a vague discontented feeling, and I can't quite put my finger on why. I'd like to read the book and see if I felt differently. It was a good movie though, and both Cate Blanchett and Billy Crudup were excellent.
Everyone should go visit this site: Ewan McGregor for Raoul.

I am so excited! I have actually booked two of my flights for within Australia! I got the one from Hobart to Melbourne, and from Melbourne to Sydney. And Margie and I have our itinerary mostly worked out. It's going to be so much fun!! We are actually only going to be in Sydney for less than 2 days, but I figure that's okay, because if I do get back to Australia again, that will probably be where I go, so I don't feel I need to see it all right now.
I am also feeling very professional, because I finally went and set up an RRSP yesterday. I wanted to do it last year, and put it off, so I figured now was really the time. I had to laugh when the person asked me if I wanted to pick my own mutual funds. Like I know *anything* about mutual funds.
I bought new boots on Wednesday! I love them. I only buy shoes like once or twice a year, so it's always a big deal for me. :-)
I am going to go see Lord of the Rings tonight after work. Hopefully. Laurie arrives at 11, so I need to kill some time.

Alright, so I hate the new layout too. Don't worry. It won't last long. It was much more exciting in my head though, I swear. And I just really needed to change the Christmas one, so there wasn't much time.
Karen and I went out for Italian food yesterday. Yummy! :-)
I think my DVD player is possessed. After refusing to work for two weeks, it has now all of a sudden started to for no apparent reason. Which is good, because the part that I thought I had to buy to get it to work is sold out at every story I went to in order to buy it.
Laurie is coming down this weekend, I'm quite excited. Although, I did just see her when I was in Ottawa for New Year's. :-) But that's not important. What is important is that Laurie will finally get to see Mamma Mia!, and then the world will be complete. I am so excited for her to see it. But, unfortunately, we just got our tickets yesterday, so they didn't have two together, so I won't get to see her reactions during the show. I guess I'll have to settle for the post-show buzz.
I set my new mug on fire in the microwave on Sunday. It was quite an adventure, let me tell you. And yes, scrubbing black soot off the microwave for three hours is exactly as much fun as it sounds like.
I wanna buy my plane ticket to Australia now. But I can't afford it for another month. It's going to drive me insane!
