June 29:
Just a fun little thing in honour of Canada Day!
So, what do Canadians have to be proud of?
1. Smarties
2. Crispy Crunch & Coffee Crisp
3. The size of our footballs fields and one less Down
4. Baseball is Canadian
5. Lacrosse is Canadian
6. Hockey is Canadian
7. Basketball is Canadian
8. Apple pie is Canadian
9. Mr. Dress-up kicks Mr. Rogers ass
10. Tim Hortons kicks Dunkin' Donuts ass
11. In the war of 1812, started by America, Canadians pushed the Americans back...past their 'White House'. Then we burned it... and most of Washington, under the command of William Lyon McKenzie who was insane and hammered all the time. We got bored because they ran away, so we came home and partied ... Go figure!
12. Canada has the largest French population that never surrendered to Germany.
13. We have the largest English population that never ever surrendered or withdrew during any war to anyone, anywhere.
14. Our civil war was a bar fight that lasted a little over an hour.
15. The only person who was arrested in our civil war was an American mercenary, who slept in and missed the whole thing...but showed up just
in time to get caught.
16. We knew plaid was cool far before Seattle caught on.
17. The Hudson's Bay Company once owned over 10% of the earth's surface and is still around as the world's oldest company
18. The average dog sled team can kill and devour a full grown human in
under 3 minutes.
19. We still know what to do with all the parts of a buffalo.
20. We don't marry our kin-folk.
21. We invented ski-doos, jet-skis, velcro, zippers, insulin,
penicillin, zambonis, the telephone and short wave radios that save
countless lives each year
22. We ALL have frozen our tongues to something metal and lived to tell
about it.
June 28:
My mother comes tomorrow!! I'm so excited. Is it wrong to be this happy about seeing your mother? :-) It's been more than 3 years since she came to visit me where I was living. She'll be here for a week and a half, and I've got every day pretty much planned out. We're taking a couple of road trips, seeing lots of theatre, going to museums, beaches, etc! Should be a blast!! And I only have to work for 4 of the 12 days she's here, so that's really good!
I'm still in a bit of post-'NSYNC haze. The concert was *really* good, and I really liked the stuff they sang off their new album. I can't wait until it comes out! I will be at HMV when it opens on the 24th. :-) I already have a gift certificate for it too, so I won't even have to pay for it! In case anybody happened to catch the 'NSYNC @ Much special on MuchMusic last week (or one of the million times it's been repeated already), I was there! I got to touch J.C. and Chris' hands. It was pretty cool. :-) Here's a cute picture of Lance:

I'm also on a bit of a Joey McIntyre kick right now, which is a little strange for me. I saw this E! True Hollywood Special on New Kids on the Block, and then one on Joe, and then he's one of People's 50 most eligible bachelors this week, and his new CD's just come out...anyway, it's made me pay more attention to him. I went to buy the new CD, but none of the CD stores in downtown Toronto has it! So I had to order it from CDNow, which means I have to wait. I am not patient!! :-)
The vegetables in my garden are doing so well! I have peas and little tomatoes now, and my watermelon and pumpkin plants are getting really big! I have tons and tons of dill, now I just need some cucumbers so I can do something with the dill!
Someone has to stop this Ebay thing. I was doing so well - I didn't buy anything for 8 months. Now I've won about 4 things in the last month - the last one being an Ethan Phantom program from London I won yesterday. I swear that's the last thing I'm bidding on!!
48 days till Europe!!
June 14:
What a sweltering day! I think they said it was like 31 (that's Celsius, people!) or something like that. And it's sooooo humid. I'm a prairie girl, I'm not used to this!! :-)
My vegetables are loving the weather though - the peas are blossoming, and everything else is growing at an exponential rate. Tiger has also decided that the pond in the back is his own personal water bowl. It's pretty funny watching him trying to drink out of it without falling in. :-)
This month is really going by with no major excitement - other than the 'NSYNC concert next week, of course, which I'm just a little too excited about. :-)
There was this special on TV the other night about the top 100 "heart-pounding" movies of all time. I'd seen maybe 15 of them. And most of the ones I'd seen, I don't really considering "heart-pounding" (E.T.?). I'm such a wimp. :-) I had, however, seen the movie that was number 1 - Psycho.
My parents are both in and out of hospitals this month, which is not too good. At least my mother's problems are looking less serious upon closer inspection. She'll still likely have to have surgery this summer though. But not until after she comes to visit me!!
Oh, and I don't know if I mentioned before that I've broken my toe. I actually did it almost a month ago, but I just keep banging it into things and re-injuring it. It's really not very smart! :-)
I wanna see Mozart! in September!!
62 days till Europe!
June 5:
Why is it that I never learn that the Tony voters obviously don't have the same ideas of what makes good theatre as I do??
Not that I'm all that upset about The Producers - I do think it's a brilliant show, and deserving of most of its wins. I would not, however, have given it Best Score, and I've heard from people more knowledgeable about these things than I am, that it shouldn't have won all the technical awards either.
I am, however, extremely upset about the Best Actress category. I don't know how anyone who saw Marla as Jane Eyre could not have voted for her.
Anyway, the show overall was okay - I really enjoyed The Full Monty's performance, and Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane "hosting".
On to other things! I had a fun weekend with Karen and Gill, and am now much more excited about the upcoming 'NSYNC concert than I was before. :-) I wasn't all that fond of their new song at first, but it's growing on me!
We now have a pond in the garden in our backyard. There is a fountain in the pond as well. My roommate is insane. :-)
71 days till Europe!!
