A difference of opinion

I am getting *so* tired of people writing me to tell me that my opinions on my musical site are wrong. I don't mind at all if they write to tell me they have a different opinion, and why. But I am just sick of the emails going "Are you nuts?" and "EVERY other fan agrees with me". Right.

A difference of opinion is only natural when it comes to something artistic. And this leads me into this whole crazy Phantom movie thing. So the casting is finally announced, and it's actually better than I was prepared for. I've never heard of the people playing Erik or Christine, but that could be a positive thing - at the very least, it's not Antonio Bandares, John Travolta, Katie Holmes, or any of the other terrifying possibilities that had been mentioned. However, I'm not so fond of the attitude of Joel Schumacher, who said, "And I know the Michael Crawford fans are going to be hysterical, but maybe they should stay home then..." Way to sell your movie, Joel! I am not one of those that wants Michael Crawford in the movie, but I do think there are many, many talented men who have played the role on stage who might have been considered for the movie. And I don't think it would hurt to show a bit of respect to the stage version, which people obviously seem to enjoy!

He also says about Gerard Butler, the guy who's been cast as the Phantom, "He's going to be a great Phantom - a young, sexy Phantom." See, that's a problem. Erik isn't young. Erik has had a long life full of suffering. That is what makes him who he is. You take that away from him, and he just becomes a psycho. Which I know is what a lot of people already think, but there's no need to encourage it.

HOWEVER. Even though it's not confirmed, the very idea of Alan Cumming as one of the managers has me on the floor. So I might actually have to see the damn thing after all.

I spent most of today recuperating from last night. :-) A bunch of us from work went out to a couple of clubs, for some drinking and dancing, and I didn't get home until about quarter to 4. So I've just been sluggish all day today (not hungover - I didn't drink that much! :-). It was a good time though. The weather was really nice, and I bought some new clothes and sandals, and it was nice to spend some time with everybody outside of the office. Oh, and a crazy drunk guy on the bus home told me I was gorgeous and guessed my Zodiac sign in two tries, so it was all good. ;-)

Susan also came over after work on Thursday, to meet Tiger. :-) She's going to be looking after him in August while my mom and I are on our trip. We ordered pizza and watched "Bridget Jones' Diary", and she laughed at all the pictures of theatre guys on my walls. :-) Zorana tells me my apartment looks like a serial killer's apartment! I don't think that's quite true. Anyway, Tiger only tried to bite her once, which means he likes her quite a bit, so I think it will be alright.
