Picture of the day:

I just had the most crazy day...we got out of TV class early, because we were supposed to go shoot some of the footage for our next story. So we went to a restaurant on campus for a quick lunch first, and on our way, this ambulance and police car sped by, sirens going. We made a few jokes, as usual, about how we should go cover it, then forgot all about it.
When we were done, one of my group members (there's 3 of us) went to his mom's office on campus to get the car keys so we could go shoot. He came back looking a little shaken...turns out the ambulance and police were for his mother...a piece of equipment in one of the science labs had exploded! So we went over to the hospital she'd been taken to (she's fine...some cuts on her neck and face), and waited until they released her. It could have really been a lot worse though...if she had been at a different angle, it could have decapitated her. Also, she was supposed to have put some kind of radioactive material in the machine as well, but had decided not to. That could have had some really nasty effects as well. Needless to say, she was in a bit of shock, and not in a state to go back to work or drive, so we drove her back to their home in Almont, about 45 minutes out of Ottawa.
It's just amazing when you think about it sometimes, how frail life is, and how things can happen so suddenly. She said she felt as though there were an angel or something in the room with her...there's really no way she should have been as uninjured as she was. It's just a sobering thought.
On a very, very different note, I leave for Germany in exactly 20 hours! Can you tell I'm getting excited?! :-) I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. I'm just excited about everything now. I need to go home and pack...I haven't even had time to do that yet. I'm going to try to pack light, but that doesn't usually work. I'm sure I'll write ALL about it when I get back. :-)
Oh, and as for our TV story, we didn't get to do any of the shooting today, so now I'm leaving for the week and won't get to help with the story at all. I feel really bad about that, but luckily my group is really understanding.
Okay, I really think that's all I have time for...time to get home and have something to eat and absorb everything that's happened. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving (or what is it in the States this weekend? Columbus Day?), and I'll write when I return!
