I have only one excuse for my long delay in posting, and that is that my computer badly needs to be replaced. The screen is going, and certain keys on my keyboard don't work, meaning I have to cut and past "w"s and the numbers one through four. It is a supreme pain. I really, really, really want a new computer, but it's just not a priority at the moment. So in the meantime, I suffer, and none of my sites get updated!

Needless to say, a lot has happened in the past three months. But I'll try to keep this reasonably short.

First, we are fully moved into our condo. The renovation of the living room was a bit challenging, but we managed to get the result we were looking for. Here are some step-by-step pictures. The building has a pool that we've been making use of and we're still exploring the neighbourhood.

In May, we spent the long weekend on Vancouver Island with Todd's family. His parents had rented a condo in Parksville for a week, but we just stayed the weekend. It was a lovely time! Pictures are here.

In June I made a quick trip to Calgary for work, and was looking forward to spending some time with all my nephews, but unfortunately two of them got very sick, and weren't up to doing much. It was still nice to see everyone, but the circumstances weren't great.

At the end of June, my mom flew out to Vancouver, and she, Todd and I headed to Hawaii! This was a trip we'd been planning for ages (about 7 years actually), and I'm so happy it finally happened. We rented a condo at Waikiki for a week and rented a car for a couple of days as well, so we could see some of the rest of the island. It was a fantastic trip, and went much too quickly. A small selection of pictures can be found here.

After that, Mom went to Kelowna for the rest of the week, and then was back in Vancouver for another week. We did some touristy stuff around town like the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain, Granville Island, Stanley Park, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and more. Unfortunately, on our last day out, Mom's camera was stolen on the Skytrain, so we don't have any pictures of any of those things.

Last weekend we all headed to Victoria for my cousin's wedding. Our hotel was next to the Royal BC Museum, so we checked that out, and visited with lots of family. It was a gorgeous weekend, and over much too quickly, again.

Lee, Dawnelda and Alex had also come to Victoria for the wedding, and on Tuesday, they stopped in Vancouver on their way back to Calgary, and stayed with us for a few days, just heading out this morning. It was great to spend some more time with them, and also just to have some company from my family, other than my mom (who visits regularly :-).

Around all of this, I have of course been working very long hours - things are really gearing up now that we're just 200 days from the opening of the Games. I learned that I will get to work on site at one of the venues during the Olympics, which I'm very excited about!! We also managed to get tickets to the Men's figure skating free skate during the last round of ticket sales, and that's the one I really wanted, so all is well. :-)

Okay, I said I would try to keep this short, so I'll end here, and make some vague promise about updating more often. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Another month gone - it's been busy and productive though. Things are going well with the condo stuff - we get possession in just two weeks. Last weekend we went out and bought some great furniture for the new place. This weekend has involved packing, and making arrangements for the move. I can't wait!

We've also been doing some fun stuff this month. Today we rented a tandem bike and rode around Stanley Park and the seawall. A couple of weeks ago, we spent the day out at Fort Langley, which has not only the fort, but lots of cool little shops and restaurants. And then of course there was the trip home for Easter, which was great! Lots of time with the family, especially the nephews, good food, nice church services - what more could you ask for?

Here are some pictures of our condo, and the trip home. I'd write more, but this keyboard is driving me crazy!!

Easter at home
Our condo!

       March 29, 2009

As promised, I can close the month with exciting news - we have bought a condo! It's not 100% official yet, but the offer's accepted, the mortgage has been approved, and there's just a couple of little things yet to do. We won't actually take possession until mid-May, as we have our current place until the end of May, but we can start making moving plans, and looking at furniture. We have the home inspection tomorrow, so we'll take lots of pictures then to share.

In the meantime, a few details! It's a 2-bedroom condo in Burnaby, with a fireplace, in- suite laundry, and the building has a pool in a separate "pool house" in the gardens. It's on a quiet cul-de-sac, but only a 10 minute walk from the Skytrain. It's also close to a big mall, and the Trans-Canada. Overall, it meets pretty much all of our criteria, and only needs a little bit of updating to make it perfect for us. And we think we got a good deal on it too, which is great.

That's pretty much been eating up most of our spare time for the past few weeks. In other news, we started our marriage preparation course, which is going to be a lot more impersonal than I was expecting, as there are over 50 other couples there! I think Todd is relieved that he doesn't have to talk in front of the group. :-)

This week has been the world figure skating championships, which means, among other things, that it's been one year since I was in Sweden. I have been back in Canada for a whole year already! Anyway, I thought Tanith and Ben were robbed, but other than that have pretty much agreed with the judging. It still makes me sad that Jeffrey's not there.

I've got one more full week of work to go, and then we have 5 days off for Easter - I can't wait!! Todd and I are flying to Alberta on Holy Thursday evening and heading to my mom's, where we'll spend the weekend celebrating not only Easter but also my sister and my nephew's birthdays. This will be the first time in 13 years that I'll be home for Easter.

That's about it for now - check back in a couple of days for the condo pictures. Have a great week everyone!
